HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED A NEW ROOF?

Water intrusion and stains on the ceiling are usually the first signs for the homeowner.  Our roofing professionals are trained to spot the signs from the roof top before the water enters your home.  Don't wait until it's to late call for a free inspection.

WHAT IF I NEED A NEW ROOF AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR IT?

Our prices are reasonable but there may exist circumstances to where financing is necessary.  Financing is available just give us a call and we will help you get qualified.

WHAT TYPE OF WARRANTIES DO YOU OFFER?

My company offers a 5-year labor and workmanship warranty.  This includes the labor and material for any necessary repairs due to leaks, blow offs or incorrect installations.  We also perform all work according to manufacturer specifications to achieve you full warranty on your shingles.

DO LIGHT-COLORED SHINGLES LAST LONGER THAN DARK SHINGLES?

On structures with attics and proper ventilation, light and dark shingles tend to last about the same amount of time. Without proper ventilation, it is possible that the darker shingles might have a shorter life as a result of their tendency to reach higher temperatures due to increased absorption of solar energy. The hotter deck may bake the shingles, causing the asphalt to become brittle and the shingles to fail prematurely.

ARE HEAVIER SHINGLES ALWAYS BETTER QUALITY?

Weight is a poor measure of shingle quality. Asphalt quality and shingle tear strength are much better indicators of shingle performance than its weight. Shingles with longer warranties tend to be heavier than shingles with shorter warranties. However, the true performance potential is measured in terms of shingle toughness, asphalt durability, sealant formulation and amount, and so on, because these relate to resistance to weathering and the stresses of handling.

IS VENTILATION REALLY THAT IMPORTANT?

Deck movement and deterioration are commonly the results of poor ventilation. In the summer, too much heat build up due to a poorly ventilated “flat-ceiling” attic can cause the shingles and/or deck to deteriorate prematurely. In the winter, deck-related problems are often due to condensation forming on the deck underside, which is also a result of poor ventilation. It is important to understand that shingles failing before their time, due to inadequate ventilation, will not be protected by the manufacturer’s warranty. In summary, ventilation can be very beneficial for roofs over standard attics, especially for those that can be ventilated at both the peak and the soffit. Over cathedral ceilings, however, ventilation is more difficult to achieve and heat and condensation problems may occur. With regard to ventilation, vapor retarders-such as plastic foam insulation and aluminum-faced ceiling panels- may be useful. In short, provide adequate ventilation, especially if an unreduced warranty is desired.

WHY DOES MY ROOF HAVE STAINS OR STREAKING?

Although sometimes wrongly called “fungus”, the dark stains on roofs are usually caused by blue-green algae. To fight the algae, some manufacturers make a shingle which has algae-resistant granules on the weather side. Two granules have been used for this purpose: zinc metal and copper oxide coated granules. At this time, copper oxide granules are the most commonly used and are the granules of choice for CertainTeed. If you shingles aren’t protected it is possible to lighten the discoloration with the use of an algaecide treatment. Use Safers Moss and Algae Cleaner or Shingle ShieldTM. You can also make a mixture of one part laundry bleach and three parts water, with a pinch of tri-sodium phosphate (also known as TSP and available in hardware stores). Be sure to cover plants and shrubs. Caution: SAFETY FIRST roof will be slippery. Use a soft bristle brush and be sure not to loosen or damage granules.
